The connection between dietary factors and the emergence of endometriosis has become a topic of interest mainly due to the observation that the physiological and pathological processes of the disease may be influenced by diet. Table of Contents Toggle Feeding and endometriosis The role of nutrients in endometriosis Cynical practice referencesBody Feeding and endometriosis Endometriosis is a chronic hormone-dependent inflammatory gynecological condition that causes pelvic pain symptoms with an impact on the physical, mental and social well-being of women of reproductive age. Several factors, such as genetic, environmental and lifestyle, were pointed out in the establishment and development of the disease. The role of nutrition in determining the establishment and progression of endometriosis has recently become a problem, mainly due to the observation that some of the physiological and pathological processes associated with the disease, such as inflammation, estrogenic activity, menstrual clicity and prostaglandin metabolism may be influenced by diet. Estrogendependence of the disease is particularly relevant in this context. Scientific research has shown that diet and excess fat can strongly affect the incidence. Specific habitual dietary patterns seem to have an influence on some inflammatory markers, which have been shown to be increased in endometriosis. The role of nutrients in endometriosis Emerging findings on the role of vegetables, fruits, red meat, vitamins in general, dairy products, coffee and unsaturated fats are inconsistent. Some biological mechanisms have been suggested to support the role of all these dietary factors in affecting the risk of endometriosis, but epidemiological data do not consistently support these hypotheses. Studies show that vegetables can provide or regenerate methyl DNA groups into genes involved. In addition, vitamins A, C and E are able to reduce reactive oxygen species and cell proliferation. In contrast, high-fat eating and excessive consumption of red meat and saturated fat can increase the plasma concentration of estradiol. Cynical practice Different nutrients can exert different effects on the different stages of disease development. Studies show that women with endometriosis seem to consume fewer vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids and more red meat, coffee and trans fats. However, evidence supporting a significant association between diet and endometriosis is still not consistent. referencesBody Study suggestion:
