Science Play’s history with Web Summit is long! The company participates in this technology event since 2018, that is, it was 3 consecutive years within the largest technology event in the world, which has always been held in Portugal. In this year of 2023, for the first time, the conference will take place in Rio de Janeiro and Science Play was INVITED to participate as a BETA Startup, which is recognized for the business project already validated and in advanced stage, in the phase of growth and international expansion.
History of Web Summit
The start was at a conference for 150 people in Dublin in 2009. In which, journalists, entrepreneurs and investors from the region were gathered to talk about technology. In 2011, when tripled in size, the event began to occupy nobler spaces in Europe, as well as began to draw more attention from people around the world.
It is noteworthy that the first five editions took place in the Irish capital, but with the increase in popularity and public in 2015, the first edition was held in LisbonPortugal. Thus, since 2015 the event is held annually in the Portuguese capital, and over the years, it has consolidated itself as the largest event of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship not only in Europe, but also in the world.
Today, in 2023, for the first time, the Web Summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro on May 1, 2, 3 and 4. It is worth remembering that Brazil will host other editions of this festival until 2028, and may attract up to 70,000 participants in the coming years. In addition, over the years Brazil has become one of the main markets for cryptocurrencies, in addition to technological development, which was decisive for an edition of the Web Summit to take place here.

Startups that apply to exhibit at the Web Summit are assigned to a category based on the size and revenues of the company. Being these divided into three groups are alpha, beta and growth.
Alpha | Alpha startups are those that are in a pre-investment phase, having failed to raise more than a million dollars in funding. It is worth remembering that during the editions of the years 2018 to 2022 Science Play participated in the Web Summit as an alpha company.
Beta | At this stage the company successfully launched itself and is often an alumnus of Web Summit. When they reach this level, microenterprises have already been able to launch their innovative ideas and often seek investors to help them grow, they are usually alumni at the Web Summit. As stated earlier, in this year 2023 Science Play was invited to participate in this technology event.
Growth | At this time the company is experiencing considerable growth, with a global expansion. He has often managed to raise more than $3 million.
