What is it?
Eating behavior refers to all actions that involve the food issue, from choice to ingestion, besides also involving everything that is related to eating beyond the physiological aspect.
What’s it for?
This serves to define the food choices that the individual makes and also understand what involves beyond the mechanical act of eating, that is, why and how the individual feeds.
How does eating behavior work?
From the moments that precede the ingestion of a food and even after, behaviors are determinant in eating habits. Thus, this is constantly modified throughout life and under numerous influences such as hunger, appetite, environment in which the individual is inserted and their traditions.
What factors influence eating behavior?
The behavior involves biological, environmental and social factors, thus the reductionist view only of the body and the act of eating as a mechanical mechanism was overcome, presenting the need for multiprofessional integration to help people suffering from disorders that are correlated with eating. That is why over the years this has become a great area of study and research within nutrition, giving rise to “behavioral nutrition” that studies all the complexities of the individual/food relationship.
